From the parking area, it is a nice walk through the harbour to the colourful pumping station. The Rozema pumping station was commissioned in 2000. It replaced the nearby Cremer pumping station. The 1931 Cremer pumping station was in need of replacement. Due to subsidence as a result of natural gas extraction in the province, the pumping station was no longer adequate. The Rozema pumping station took its place. Since 2017, the Rozema pumping station has had to come into action less often, due to drainage of the Eems Canal via a sea lock at Farmsum (Delfzijl). When the water level in the Eemskanaal > 70 cm. rises, it may be necessary to deploy the Rozema pumping station again. Not insignificantly; it saves quite a lot of CO2 emissions if the pumping station does not have to operate.
